Nobody Wants To Hear How Long It Actually Takes To Build A Personal Brand

Here’s something that would either liberate or agitate many business owners.

A “personal brand” isn’t built in a day, and surely not with a few Canva templates and Claude prompts. At the very least, it is going to take you 5–10 years to become known and trusted in your market.

Not 5–10 weeks or months.

Look-

I can go on…

These mega brands have been in business for decades. And by “being in business,” I don’t mean merely existing. I mean delivering a great product customers love telling their friends about — consistently.

That’s the price of building a brand worth buying from.

You’d need to pour your heart and soul into your business, and make sure clients are happy. The marketing industry typically doesn’t mention this. This also means the barrier to entry for building a brand is higher than it seems.

There’s less competition for serious entrepreneurs.

Instead of posting 3x/day, you can focus on what matters:

Sure, build your brand while you do all those. Post content. Share your clients’ results. Just don’t depend on “content” or “personal brand” to land clients.

Since my LinkedIn engagement dropped in 2025, I stopped doing the things that drained me and changed my strategy. I don’t send 20 DMs a day anymore, nor do I focus on writing “hooks”.

And I’m surely not doing “comment strategy” to land clients.

  1. I run ads
  2. I post content on topics I love, clients’ problems, and pepper some proof on top
  3. The end

The above strategy works not only because I’m good at advertising, but because I believe in these methods. With time, it creates a ripple effect and attracts the right clients. So, if posting content and sending DMs work for your business, and you love doing that, then great.

But if it doesn’t, pivot.

Don’t get stuck on things you’re not aligned with.
