Israel is at war again, and the market is fluctuating.

I was worried my small tutoring business couldn’t take the heat, but I quickly realized parents are still willing to pay for their kids’ education. I already had twenty students, but needed more paying students. So I launched an ad campaign on Instagram, and a few days later had new revenue coming in.

It’s a fantastic feeling, knowing you can make money even when times are hard.

## 1/ Advertising isn’t affected by social algorithms

You can’t control how many views your organic posts get.

That’s why it’s a terrible client acquisition strategy. I was two months away from not being able to pay rent with my last business, after I went all in on cold DMs and content. It worked at times, but results constantly fluctuated week to week. With advertising, you control your destiny.

Instead of twerking your ass on social, you just pay for exposure.

## 2/ Advertising attracts ready-to-buy customers

Advertising quickly pulls prospects with urgency.

When you know your customer, the problem you solve, and understand what prices make sense to them, and articulate those in simple terms, it ain’t hard to run profitable ads. Direct, clear ads with prices and an offer help prospects know exactly what they opt-in for.

There’s not much “convincing” to be done since your marketing targets the right customers and does the seduction for you.

## 3/Advertising is brutally honest about what product sell or not

Clear and simple ads cut through the noise.

When you advertise your offer, you essentially ask people, “Would you buy this or not?” If opt-ins are zero and your service is in demand (you’re not “inventing” anything new) then something is off with the articulation of your offer. Perhaps your price doesn’t make sense, you’re not touching on the right pain points, or you’re targeting the wrong customer.

Advertising reveals business blind spots within weeks.

## 4/ Advertising lets you purchase underpriced attention

Many businesses prefer to not run ads.

They use cold DMs or cold emails, post three times a day, or do “viral giveaways.” That leaves plenty of room for businesses who look for more efficient client acquisition methods. Even if competition is high, advertising can still be very profitable.

You just launch an ad, get leads after a couple days, and close them.

## 5/ You can start with $7/day

I advertise my mom’s business on $7/day.

She’s a massage therapist without a “personal brand.” When she started out a year and a half ago, she barely had any proof of results. But bit by bit, she grew her side business to $2–$3k per month. Obviously it’s not a ton of money, but for a small ad budget and almost zero content marketing (she only posts her customers’ feedback) that’s not bad at all. Running ads even with a small budget lets you test demand and nail your message.

And it can be your unfair advantage when done right.
